Reservoir

The holding pen for tasks without a date — capture now, schedule when you're ready.

Not everything you capture deserves a slot in your week yet. The Reservoir is where undated tasks wait — visible enough that you don't forget them, out of the way enough that they don't clutter your plan.

The Reservoir side panel listing tasks without a date

Opening it

Click the inbox tray icon in the dock, or press Ctrl++B. The panel slides in over whatever view you're in — by design, so you can pull ideas into the plan you're looking at.

What belongs here

Any task with no do-date: books to read, someday-maybe projects, errands with no urgency. Tasks land in the Reservoir when you:

  • create a task without a +date token in Spotlight,
  • clear a task's do-date,
  • or capture from an integration without scheduling.

Emptying it (the fun part)

  • Drag a task from the panel onto a Kanban column or a Calendar slot — it's now part of the plan.
  • Or open a task and give it a do-date — same effect.
  • The search, sort, and filter controls at the top keep a big Reservoir manageable.

Make it a ritual

A five-minute Reservoir sweep during your Monday planning keeps the list honest: schedule what matters, delete what doesn't anymore, and let the genuinely someday-maybe items sit tight.

Keeping the Reservoir out of your schedule

By default, auto-scheduling also places undated Reservoir tasks into open time — so a task you dropped here can still surface in your day. To keep the Reservoir strictly a holding pen, turn on Settings → AI Scheduling → Exclude Reservoir from scheduling, and undated tasks stay put until you give them a date. You can also exclude a single dated task — flip Auto-Schedule: Included off in its task view.
